Hello again!! Well we've had another fairly busy week, but the main topic of the week has been my mum's dog. He's our own dog's dad and is almost 16 years old. He's been in some pain for a while, his back legs seem to have arthritis. Well this week he has been worse, crying out in pain. Mum has taken him to the vets every day and he has had a deep x-ray which has shown 2 bones on his spine. She has to take him back on Monday, she's preparing herself for the worst as she doesn't think they will operate on him because of his age. Although he's been on painkillers this week she says he looks so sad and it is still hard for him to walk up the stairs to her flat! They're coming over tomorrow and I must remember to try and get some photos of the 2 dogs together. It's going to be very upsetting if this is the last time we may see him!!
We're off out tonight for a Meditterranean evening, there are about 20 people going to one of our member's houses and it's costing us £3 each. All 6 of us are going which is nice, I like it when we do something together! We are going to leave the lights on and the tv and radio on downstairs as last night we heard the first lot of fireworks going off
Our dog really doesn't like them at all but didn't flinch last night, not sure if he was so fast asleep!! We have been advised by the vet not to make a fuss of him, we used to stroke him and say it's ok, calm down etc.... but they said that actually makes them think there IS something to be worried about and that the best thing is to ignore him completely! This is so hard to do as it goes against human nature!! However he worries me when he's panting and you can hear his heart pounding! We don't go out to firework displays now and I do miss the atmosphere as it's the start of winter, with Halloween and that, then it's almost Christmas!! Still, we are going to Bridwater carnival on Friday so I will feel like we have done something (it's the standing in the cold that does it lol) Our dog will go up to our friends who live in a village that has hunting dogs and horses and they are not allowed to have fireworks going off all the time! I wish they would rule it totally that it is JUST 5th November they go off, it would make life better for anyone with pets who don't like the noise!
We are doing very well with our Christmas shopping now, almost done in fact! We have relented and said our son can have a hamster, I just fell in love with them in the pet shop in town, so we are looking around at plastic cages, actually he chose one today on his lunch break and has asked for it to be put aside, we'll pick it up on Monday. His fiancee is buying him the hamster, but not sure how that will work out, obviously she can't wrap him up can she??? Lol, answers on a postcard please......
